Twitter

As you probably know, we have been experimenting with twitter as a communication tool -- and are still trying to "figure out" how it can be an effective mechanism for us. It is also interesting that "twitter" has made the cover of Time magazine along with an accompanying article. Interesting perspective on this methodology including an example of at least one use in an educational environment.

How do you think we could or should use this technology -- or not?

  1. Until the budget is approved, how about a daily/near daily update on it?

  2. Twitter is short direct and quick. It could lead to conversations if there are enough followers tunned in at the same time. I find it interesting to watch but I look to the blog for more in depth opinion and information. I really appreciate your efforts to use current technologies to communicate, I feel a responsibility to teach our students the same. There is a lot that could be done. The biggest hurdle is to pull old guys like me into the 21st century, and to help us adjust our outdated paradigms. The kids already use micro blogging and texting to augment their communication, maybe we could channel that to aid them in their pursuit of educational acheivement. Could teachers use alesson with a challenge and the first tweet with the correct answer would be rewarded? hmmmm. Could we teach kids to take the pulse on hot topics by showing them how to follow those tweets? Or maybe how to find experts or people with causes and controversies, Its an exciting world. I dont think we have scratched the surface of what we can do with the technological tools already at our disposal. We need champions at our job sites promoting the use of technologiy to sove teacher problems and perhaps make learning more exciting. I'd be happy to help, I am sure there are other teachers who are interested in tech who wouldn't mind giving a five minute talk on twitter or RUSD Live or board meeting podcasts.
Does RUSD have a think tank or brain trust of people who ponder the possibilities with existing and emerging technologies for our students and staff?
